This tournament was held at Garden Grove, one of my nemesis courses. I struggle to stay out of trouble on this course and finish in single digits.
Fun story: Garden Grove is the sight of my first tournament December of 2021. I and my young son played the course blind. I got wrecked and finished really bottom of MA3. My son, who struggled so much, was the only competitor in the M15 and under divisions. He wanted to quit, he was so tired and discouraged. But my cardmates and I encouraged him to finish, and in doing so won his division! Aside, Jacob Little (PDGA #158145) was on my first card. He was so patient and encouraging. He went on to win MA3, his first MA3 win. I have followed him since (Instagram @jacoblittle_dg) and enjoying seeing his disc golf career progress and occasionally running into him on the course.
Back to this tournament… my card had fellow league members DiscDyeAddict and Garrison, and also James Sloop (PDGA #126115), from Burlington and with whom I have played with before. Garrison took the card and shot a PB of +4 (897 rated!). I was having a pretty good round, Even through 5. But then #6 got me and I started to loose confidence and falter. I plead some strokes and was +5 through 17. But #18 got me (again) and I managed to double-bogey due to a bad upshot which forced me to layout up and then short the basket on a 10 foot putt fearing a roll-away. I finished +7 and though 870 rated, I think about what could have been.
