The Fawn and Triples

The Fawn and Triples

On the evening of June 11, Nick (DiscDyeAddict – check out his stuff), Matt and I played The Crossing.

It was a beautiful evening. Hightlights included Nick beating me on the last two holes. On #17 his drive was short and he had a big C2 to make. My drive got me close, about 18ft. What does he do? He big putts me! Makes that C2 and out of trepidation, I shorted by birdie putt, making it a tie game. On #18 he completely outdrives me to get within the circle and get the bird. I cannot match.

We decided to follow the round with a round of triples. Playing a casual round of triples in fun. It really is so much more easy going.
As we started I asked them what they thought the mark was. NOTE, the short layout has 19 holes. I had a number in mind. I know there is a turkey on the front (5, 6, 7) and another on the back (10, 11, 12). I was counting on 1 and 15. I felt confident we could pick up a few more. At first -8 was offered. I pushed back, asking if they didn’t think we could get double-digits. -10 was conceded. More discussion, until finally -12 was offered. I thought that was the line, but to be aggressive, I then threw out -13. We set to work.

On #2 Nick’s disc went afield left toward the highway and we searched everywhere for it, tramping up and down wood along the fairway. Imagine our amazement that just off the fairway the smallest fawn lay hiding!

I am happy to report we exceed expectations and shot a -16. The whole round was filled with great shots. My contribution that I am most proud of being I parked #4b, the 316ft right to left downhill across a creek, with my understable Valkyrie. On occasion I make that shot (wish I had made the shot in the singles round!) and it was great to pull it off that night.
